KC And The Sunshine Band Member And Alledged Gay Pedophile Arrested In Newark, Ohio

Disco ball on black
No More Disco Balls Please

There have been some strange news stories coming out in Newark, Ohio lately, but they just keep getting stranger. 2009 had the drunk bar stool operator. A bunch of drunks get together and one decides to hop on a motorized bar stool, not strange. The Newark police vindictively arresting him for a DUI, the Newark Advocate along with The Licking County County Child Support Agency making a giant effort to bury his integrity and his future, and a nationwide promotion of the event with celebrities, that’s strange. For 2010 we have an alleged gay pedophile having sex with young boys, who just happens to already be a celebrity. He’s Richard Finch of KC And The Sunshine Band.

The Newark Police say that he made a confession, Richard Finch’s “people” say he’s innocent. There is a charge on him for sex with a 13 year old boy and more allegations from other boys aged 13 to 17. What is it with pop stars and their devious tendencies? They get easy money, all the women adore them, and life in general would seem easy. That’s not good enough? They have to head down the most deviant paths they can find, or at least be accused of heading down these paths.

No matter what the outcome is, the old hits will never mean the same again. The titles are just to creepy now.

  • Blow Your Whistle
  • Shake Your Booty
  • Sound Your Funky Horn
  • I’m a Pushover
  • Get Down Tonight
  • That’s the Way I Like It
  • I Like To Do It
  • I’m Your Boogie Man
  • Keep It Comin Love
  • Do You Wanna Go Party?
  • Space Cadet
  • Something’s Happening
  • Will You Love Me In The Morning?

I don’t think I could ever listen to these songs again without getting sicker to my stomach than when they were first made popular.

One has to wonder what in the world was the draw for a disco prince out in the sticks near Newark, Ohio anyhow? Sure, he’s got a right to live where he chooses, but what was it that he liked so much about a partially secluded home in the woods in Ohio?

  • Really strange. Why did he pick this area to hang out? Good essay.

He and KC hid being homesexuals from fans for all this time, when they should have been honest. KC and Rick lived with each other for years in a home they bought in Hialeah Fl. They had exotic birds they raised, my friend sold them some of them.Rick had drug problems, along with KC, who admitted to a 100K a year problem with cocaine. KC is/was great friends with Bill Tanner, a DJ from Miami, who went down for this same crime. I hear through the grape vine, KC aided him with finding a new job, after his release from jail. Tanner I hear, works for Spanish radio and lives in Memphis, where I hear KC has a place? KC now has a home in Miami Lakes Fl and Chapel Hill NC also. I have a good friend that lives in Raleigh and sees him often around Chapel Hill with young guys. KC lives there, it can be checked. My friend has a home down the street. Lots of people posting on the net that they are “friends” to both these men, yet they don’t seem to know these facts. The article said Rick admitted to sex with kids as young as 13.

    • I had to heavily edit the previous poster’s remarks. It said some things that I think we should let the due process of law figure out. It is a good warning that if folks have kids around these characters, there’s no sunshine involved with the band, take prudent measures to keep kids safe.

I don’t think honesty is an option if this man is guilty. It’s an odd case. This post may shine some “sunshine” on what this guy was doing in the backwoods Ohio when it would seem his lifestyle and occupation would be better suited for other places.

Mark is pretty accurate in his account. I was a crazed KC fan who spent way too much time out front of Rick & KC’s house in Miami Lakes. I learned what “gay” was watching the teenage boys get inside the house while us girls scratched our heads outside. Bill Tanner was a fixture, always delivering teenage boys on a daily basis as I recall. Hanging around was an education of drugs, muscle cars and pedophiles. I could go into a lot more detail but I’ll just say I’m only surprised it took this long for somebody to go to jail.

    • I would like to hope that what you’re saying isn’t true. I have to wonder how parents didn’t find out at some point. How did it go unnoticed by the law? If a famous musician is sending kids out of his house with drugs, it’s not going to be a quiet event. That kid’s going say something to someone. Why didn’t you tell someone? What would make a girl want to stay if you knew there was nothing there for you?

I don’t mean to sound accusatory, but you have to understand where all of this raises questions. What type of education was he bringing to Newark, Ohio? Was there people helping him here? I guess these are matters for the law to hash out, but for the sake of kids here, adults should be asking questions.

We have to take a ride in my time machine back to 1976 until 1979 when I was in high school. Every day after school we would fill the car and go to either KC’s or the Bee Gees (another story) and every studio in between. KC was our favorite and closest. We went back because we got pictures, autographs, etc. and the thrill of bringing new people who wanted to meet him. The word “gay” was relatively new thanks to Anita Bryant. We had no real idea what was going on inside his house because we never got in, but the boys were like a daily parade. We were so dumb we even flirted with the boys. Eventually we all moved on and grew up. I never knew where Finch was past 30 yrs until the new hit last month. It totally makes sense to me and anybody who hung around there “back in the day”. I guess they moved away and took their bad habits with them. The more I read, he was promoting teen boy bands, and that’s just creepy given the history. KC’s comments are disturbing too because he is absolutely in the same boat, perhaps never got caught. Why we never told was because we were naive and because we didn’t want anybody to stop US from going on our joy rides. They lived next door to a coach who also had 2 young sons, that would be a good interview if you could get him to talk.

        • Sorry I had to edit the names out, but thanks for the insight. It certainly answers some questions.

As I climb up on this morale high horse, I have to say that it shows why society should be more careful about who they idolize. These folks can use their star power and money for good or bad. Finch wasn’t even in the B list category and look at the damage he’s accused of. If he’s not guilty, he’s certainly got a track record of impacting people in the wrong direction.

At this point only the victims and the police have the real story of what happened, but assumptions are probably going to turn into truths with this. If you do what he Finch is accused of for so many years with so many people, the laws of averages are going to catch up with you. I don’t think I have to say what probably got him caught.

I find it disgusting that so many parents would have fallen for it. KC And The Sunshine Band are taking interest in your kid’s piano lessons? You just let down your guard and let them go without supervision? Parents, it’s OK to question everyone and never let down your guard. People with no bad intentions will be happy to see that your taking precautions and welcome that type of interference. People who mean no harm don’t want to take your kids to a secluded bungalow in the woods without you being there.
